My kids, Joe, 13, and Grace, 11, usually go to their dad’s [actor Martin Freeman] at the weekend, so I get a lie-in. I use a sleep-aid app and get woken up with birdsong – it’s beautifully camp – then I have 15 minutes on Twitter in bed. I throw on a pair of Urban Outfitters jeans I bought three years ago in LA – I wear them all the time so they’re starting to get a bit skanky.
I head downstairs and boil an egg – I have a bagel with smashed avocado on one side and egg on the other. I take my eight-year-old dog, Stan, for a 40-minute walk in the fields behind my house in Potters Bar. There are lots of lovely routes there. I’ve got another rescue dog, seven-year-old Arthur, but he is lazy and refuses to go out.
Then my boyfriend [actor Jonjo O’Neill] and I will go for a workout at my gym in Hatfield. I’m trying to get fit again after the summer-holiday lull. I do a 10-mile bike ride, some weight training and finish off with a run. We both wear heart monitors – I’m pretty competitive.
We’ll go swimming at Parliament Hill Lido. I do a couple of lengths and then we go to The Flask in Highgate. It’s opposite George Michael’s house, so you get a lot of fans laying flowers. I have a veggie burger and an Aperol spritz – I’m trying hard to be a vegetarian. We stay in the pub for the rest of the afternoon.
We head into town to an open-mic night at The Comedy Store in Soho. I love the compère, and with six acts, it’s a really cheap night out.
I stop for dinner at Mildreds in Soho – the food always feels soulful and healthy. I have a veggie chilli and a mojito and then we go for a nightcap at Blacks Club on Dean Street, where I’m a member, before heading to a friend’s house in Brixton.
We get home and sit up playing music on YouTube. And then, to cure my looming hangover, I have a pint of water, two paracetamol and one ibuprofen – it never fails.
My grandma always told me to wash my face before bed – no matter how late it is or how drunk you are – so since I was 16, I’ve done that. I use Sarah Chapman’s Ultimate Cleanse and have been doing so for six years now – her stuff is brilliant.
