New wave rockers The Cure and dance act Major Lazer have been announced as headliners for Bestival, as the first batch of names on the line-up are revealed.

As well as the Boys Don't Cry singers, other acts added to the line-up for the last major festival of the summer, held in September on the Isle of Wight, include electronic music group Hot Chip, Eighties new wave band The Human League and London four-piece Wolf Alice.

The event, famous for its fancy dress parade, has also announced its theme: 'future'.

The Cure, who played a well-received 'best hits' set at the festival in 2011, will embark on their first European tour since 2008 next Autumn. Frontman Robert Smith said: "We are very very happy to be back at our favourite festival; we can’t wait to play a special set to show the future IS what it used to be…”

Major Lazer, made up of experimental musicians Diplo and Jillionare, also commented. "We started at Bestival five years ago, and it was one of our favourite shows to date. Since then we finally impacted in England, and we can't wait to do our new show and play all the records for the fans at one of the best festivals in the world."

The third headliner will be announced next month.
