Sade working on first album since 2010

Sade Adu is working on her first new album since 2010's chart-topping Soldier of Love, according to one of her regular collaborators.

In March, the British singer-songwriter released her first single in eight years, Flower of the Universe, for the soundtrack of the Disney film A Wrinkle in Time

Now more is on its way: Stuart Matthewman, a member of Adu's eponymous band Sade, said they have written “a bunch of songs” in an interview with Rated R&B.

“When we’re happy, then we’ll let everyone else hear it," added Matthewman, who plays guitar and saxophone in the band.

He added that they were under no pressure from their record label Epic Records to release a new album soon: “The record company knows there’s no point in nagging us or giving us deadlines," he said. "It doesn’t really help the process."

Soldier of Love was number one hit in the US, where the album sold more than a million copies in its first year of release, and peaked at number four in the UK album chart.

Adu, 59, received a CBE last year for services to music.
