When Porsche met Boss: a design collab with innovation at its heart

Precision design: two brand heavyweights collaborate

In their fourth co-branded collection, design titans Boss and Porsche have come together to launch a range of casualwear that’s as versatile and hardworking as it is clever and creative

International lifestyle brand Boss is well known for its sporting team-ups. Boss dresses football teams from Real Madrid to FC Bayern, supports golfers from Martin Kaymer to Henrik Stenson, and its logo is famously emblazoned across the sails of Alex Thomson’s world-beating yacht. But the longest and closest relationship is between Boss and motorsports.

From as far back as 1975, when Boss sponsored German F1 star Jochen Mass, to today’s partnership with the electric street-racing series Formula E, the precision, dynamism and innovation of motorsports has been a perfect fit for the famous German style brand.

The relationship with Porsche, whose Stuttgart HQ is only 20 miles from its own, runs particularly deep. Boss dresses not only the Porsche Formula E team including reigning Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne, but the entire motorsport team worldwide, both on the track and in the workshop. And now Porsche has returned the favour by helping its German friends design a capsule menswear collection of 16 sharp, casual pieces directly inspired by the aesthetics of a Porsche sports car.

Like the new Taycan, an electric “hypercar” that can hit 60mph in a blistering 2.4 seconds, the BOSS x Porsche collection is precision designed with sleek lines, subtle luxuries and an unmistakable sense of purpose. Hoodies, denim and jersey join more tailored pieces in this season’s colour palette of black, dark olive and red to give the collection a young, modern feel. From curved seams inspired by the Porsche silhouette to the “racing strip” taping inspired by its distinctive backlights, the motorsport influence is everywhere. There’s even a key pocket inside every jacket that corresponds to the left-hand side position of the German sports car’s ignition.

With Formula E set to return in November and the BOSS x Porsche collection in stores now, here are six essential pieces to turbocharge your wardrobe:
