E3 2017 - Nintendo announce Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon for Switch

- Metroid Prime 4 announced
- Pokemon game for Switch in development
- Super Mario Odyssey released 27 October
- Yoshi's Wooly World 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kirby and Fire Emblem Warriors also revealed
- Rocket League coming to Switch, will have cross-platform play
Nintendo has announced that Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon will be coming to its new Switch console. While there was nothing shown of the new games, Nintendo took the opportunity to let fans know that the games were in development. They were the headlines of a short and sweet showcase, in which Nintendo also announced Yoshi's Wooly World 2, Kirby, Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It was also revealed that the hugely successful car football game Rocket League will be coming to Switch later this year and will allow players to match-up against players on Xbox One and PC. And finally Nintendo showed off gameplay for Super Mario Odyssey and announced a release date of 27 October.
E3 was the perfect opportunity for the second wave of Nintendo’s charm offensive for the Switch. The Japanese company’s brilliant home and handheld hybrid console has had a strong start critically and commercially since its release in March, buoyed by terrific hardware design and a few stellar titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. After the well-documented woes of Wii U, Switch’s success is a tonic for Nintendo and its fans, even going so far as to subtly shift how people think about playing their games. A strong showing here has only bolstered that.
And that's it from me
It is time to head for the E3 showfloor. I have a date with Mario this afternoon. Thankyou for joing me and follow us here at Telegraph Gaming for more E3 news and views. You can also catch up with me on Twitter.
Bye!
Short, sharp but enough to think about there
It might not have lasted very long, but there was a good amount for fans to chew on there. Even though we didn't see anything from Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Switch, to let everyone know they are coming is a good move by Nintendo. Super Mario Odyssey looks phenomenal and things like Rocket League coming to Switch shows the console is heading in the right direction. Good stuff.
Time for some Zelda DLC
Nice look at the upcoming story expansions for Breath of the Wild. It's called the Master Trials. Breath of the Wild, if you didn't know, is legit one of the best games ever made. So more is always a good thing.
Oh and there is more! The Champion's Ballad, looks like we will get a closer look at the four Champions that Link worked with. And they're also going to be Amiibos. They look great.
Here we go
And we're live and oh my, straight away we are seeing Rocket League for Switch. That is great news.
