If Super Mario had a musical, what would it be like? The answer, according to a new Super Mario Odyssey trailer, would be a riff on very New York-y Broadway musicals, complete with a dancing troupe in grey suits and fedoras.

The trailer is put to the theme song for Super Mario Odyssey, Jump Up, Super Star!, with Mario and his dancing troupe bobbing along New Donk City (the parody of New York City that's appearing in Super Mario Odyssey) to the music. The story here is that Princess Daisy is the mayor of New Donk City, and moonlights as a singer, giving Mario a little serenade during his adventure in New Donk City.

It also shows off some of the new gameplay in Super Mario Odyssey, where Mario can use his cap (which is now a living being called Cappy) to capture enemies, creatures, or objects, and take control of them. Including, apparently, your dog.

There's some new gameplay of Mario riding a scooter around the city, too, showing how some of the new open world is playing a part in Super Mario Odyssey, rather than the more linear paths the series has typically had.

Jump Up, Super Star! is the second trailer to be released for Super Mario Odyssey recently, the last of which showed off the new gameplay and design more thoroughly. Everything we learnt from it, plus everything we know about the game so far about it and its release date, can be found in our Super Mario Odyssey guide.

If you really liked the song in the trailer above, you can download it for free through the official site for the game. It's a catchy little number.
