Ink-splatting squid kids, zombies and and a digital recreation of Game of Thrones’ Westeros will take their place alongside 18th century sculpture this September as the V&A museum opens its first dedicated video games exhibition.
Videogames: Design/Play/Disrupt, which will feature games such as Journey (above), is the V&A’s major Autumn exhibition, celebrating the artistic craft and cultural impact of modern gaming. Announcing the exhibition at the museum’s Blavatnik Hall, V&A director Tristram Hunt said that it was ‘the right time’ for the exhibition and that video games are one of ‘the most important design disciplines of our time’. Hunt also said that this was the first exhibition of its kind by a major institution.
