It might not be to everybody's taste, but McDonald's latest new offering is sure to get many fast food fans salivating in anticipation.

The chain has announced it's trialing garlic-flavoured fries - "Gilroy Garlic Fries", to give them their proper title.

Sadly, they'll only be available in the San Francisco area to begin with - but could be rolled out further afield if they prove successful.

The fries are flavoured with garlic grown in the San Joaquin Valley in Gilroy, California - known as  the "Garlic Capital of the World.”

Michael Haracz, Manager of Culinary Innovation at McDonald's USA, said: “We’re proud of the work done by local franchisees and the regional team to create this menu item with locally-sourced garlic and we look forward to introducing Gilroy Garlic Fries to our customers in the Bay Area."

“The response from our customers has been very positive,” said McDonald' spokesman Nick Vergis: “We enjoy giving our customers options and bringing this local flavor to our world famous French fries.”
