'The soggy bottom joke just died': Twitter reacts to Mary Berry's debut on US GBBO

Having just finished its sixth series, the Great British Bake Off is - as the name suggests - a British institution. The series finale, which saw Nadiya Hussain triumph, was watched by a record-breaking 14.5 million viewers, plunging Britain into Bake Off Fever.

So it's not entirely surprising that out friends across the pond would want to get their hands on the winning Bake Off formula. The Great Holiday Baking Show, ABC's version of GBBO, aired on Monday night with Mary Berry once again taking up judging duties, alongside US pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini.

Over the course of the episode, several things quickly became clear. 

Love for Mary Berry is a universal thing

Though we could do without the US slang

The iconic soggy bottom line doesn't translate very well

At the end of the day, you just can't beat GBBO
