Hélène Darroze is a formidable force: she holds two Michelin stars, and runs two restaurants, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, and Restaurant Hélène Darroze in Paris. She has two daughters, Charlotte and Quiterie.
She adores nothing more than spending time with them at home in Mayfair, enjoying their favourite treats together: pizza, sushi, tiramisu, hot chocolate and lemon cake. Here, she shares her local recommendations.
"One of the places I often go to eat or to takeaway with my girls is Delfino on Mount Street. It’s really close to The Connaught. My daughters have the margherita pizza with homemade tomato sauce, or sometimes the pasta. The tiramisu is really good. It’s low-key, very family-orientated - I know the owner very well, and my girls are at the same school as their children. It’s always packed, on the terrace and inside. It has a lovely, casual ambience. I like it a lot."

EGGS IN THE MORNING
"We go to The Mount Street Deli a lot to takeaway but sometimes also to have a breakfast or a piece of cake in the afternoon. On a Saturday, when it’s quiet in Mayfair, I love to have eggs there with my daughters. One of my girls loves the lemon cake and the other is a fan of the hot chocolate and the salmon bagel. I love the apple pie - it’s a very classic, British-style dessert."
"We love to have tea at Claridge’s, in particular at Christmas. I really think that the afternoon tea at Claridge’s is the best in London. It has a lot of choice, and tea from everywhere. I love Japanese tea and they have an incredible selection of good quality teas from Japan. There’s a special Marco Polo gelée served with the scones, and the pastries are at a really high level. For me, the pâtisserie is the best in town.
"We always go at Christmas for the carols with the chef Tom Aikens and his family to exchange presents, and when I have friends visiting from France I always take them to Claridge’s to enjoy the best of the British tradition."

SUSHI AND ICE CREAM
"We love Japanese food and there are two Japanese restaurants in Mayfair that I really love. We go to Roka all the time because my girls love sushi. I like the tuna tartare. For a special occasion we go to Umu, a 2 Michelin-star Japanese restaurant with amazing food. I know the chef well, so I ask him to choose sushi and sashimi for me - I trust him to serve the freshest fish. I like the langoustine and caviar dish. They have a matcha tea tiramisu but my favourite is an ice cream cooked with genmaicha tea. Umo is a little more creative but the quality at Roka is also very high. They’ve seen my girls growing up there, because we go so often!"
