George Clooney has reportedly sold his tequila company for up to $1bn.
Casamigos, the company Clooney founded with Rande Gerber and Mike Melden in 2013 has been sold to Diageo (the company behind drinks like Smirnoff and Ciroc) for $700 million on completion of the deal, and a further $300m over the next ten years.
The award-winning spirit-maker sold 120,000 cases last year and is on track to sell 170,000 cases by the end of 2017, mostly into the US market.
In a statement about the sale, Clooney said: "If you asked us four years ago if we had a $1bn company, I don’t think we would have said yes.
"This reflects Diageo's belief in our company and our belief in Diageo. But we’re not going anywhere. We’ll still be very much a part of Casamigos. Starting with a shot tonight. Maybe two."
Lucky guy, but Clooney isn't the only A-lister to have dipped their toes in the alcohol industry...
