Set in a fantasy world known as Azeroth, populated by creatures such as orcs, dwarves, gnomes, goblins and “Pandaren” (essentially really badass pandas), World of Warcraft is the most popular online multiplayer video game in the world, played by more than five million people. It’s also the most lucrative: to date, the franchise has grossed more than $10 billion – and in 2006, it even inspired a South Park parody, Make Love, Not Warcraft.
The new film, to be released in 2016, will focus on just a small part of the Warcraft universe, looking at the origins of the conflict between humans and orcs.
