The Princess Leia actress has responded to Twitter criticism of her appearance in The Force Awakens
Carrie Fisher, star of the orginal Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens, has taken to Twitter to respond to "fans" who have criticised the way she looks in JJ Abrams's sequel.
Responding to tweets such as "YOU DIDNT AGE WELL AND U SUCKED IN STAR WARS", the 59-year-old novelist, screenwriter and Princess Leia actress tweeted that the abuse thrown her way recently has "hurt all 3 of my feelings, My BODY hasn’t aged as well as I have. Blow us.”
She then followed it up with a photograph of her dog Gary Fisher, accompanied my the caption: “My body is my brain bag, it hauls me around to those places and in front of faces where there’s something to say or see.”
Fisher recently described having to lose weight to play the now-General Leia in The Force Awakens. “They don’t want to hire all of me – only about three-quarters!” Fisher told Good Housekeeping. “Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing. I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”
Fisher may or may not be cheered by the recent surge in demand for Star Wars-themed pornography - fuelled largely by her Princess Leia pin-up years.
Meanwhile, Fisher's 73-year-old male co-star Harrison Ford has so far escaped attack for having dared to age since 1977.
