Star Wars-themed cinema opens in Nebraska
Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain opens in Omaha with a Death Star suspended in the foyer

Have you ever wanted to watch the new Star Wars film from the comfort of an Imperial spacecraft? If you don’t live in a galaxy far away from Omaha, USA, your dream could (very nearly) come true.
The cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse has opened what is presumably the first Star Wars-themed picture house in the biggest city of the Midwestern state of Nebraska.
The lobby is designed to look like the interior of the Death Star, and also has a 10-ft Death Star model hanging from its ceiling. The tills appear like the ship’s command centre and steel panels on the walls resemble the decor of the famous galactic war machine. You can even sit on Emperor Darth Sidious’s thone.
The original idea for a Star Wars-themed cinema wasn’t planned to coincide with Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, a spokesperson from Alamo Drafthouse’s Omaha team said this will be “a permanent installation and will be the destination to see all of the new Star Wars films”.
“We wanted to construct and install a lobby theme that would make us unique in our Omaha market as well as the midwest. We also wanted a theme that was built around an iconic film and to completely own that theme to immerse our guests in the experience. That is when Star Wars came into the picture and it just so happened that we timed it out just right with the announcement of the huge plans for a new Star Wars legacy starting this December.”
