Universal Studios have paid $20 million for Tom Ford's new film Nocturnal Animals, in spite of George Clooney's departure from the project.
Clooney, who signed on as producer of the film, backed out of the project last week amid rumours of an argument with Ford. The actor has since insisted that his departure was due to a scheduling conflict.
The follow-up to A Single Man, Ford's directorial debit, Nocturnal Animals will star Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal as ex-husband and wife. It is adapted from Austin Wright's 1993 novel Tony and Susan by Ford himself.
The most expensive deal at Cannes this year so far, Nocturnal Animals leads a host of new projects that have been snapped up this week, including action-thriller Precious Cargo starring Bruce Willis, and punk-rock picture 20th Century Women, which Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig and Dakota Fanning have signed on for.
Idris Elba’s new film Second Coming, the debut feature from Olivier Award-winning playwright Debra Tucker Green, also sold today to American buyers Film Movement.
