At almost 90-years-old, Mickey Mouse is, without a doubt, one of fashion’s hardest working style icons. From Madonna in those big, black ears to Carrie Bradshaw in her vintage yellow tee on Sex and the City, Mickey has long been loved by fashion’s tastemakers. And the past few years have been particularly busy for the world’s most recognisable (and loved) cartoon character, with starring roles in collections from brands including Commes des Garcons, Marc Jacobs and Opening Ceremony.
Now, it’s Coach’s turn to pay homage to the big-eared rodent, with its new limited edition collection, Disney x Coach 1941. Created to mark 75 years of the American fashion brand, the collaboration focuses on what Coach is known for best: handbags and leather accessories. And if Mickey ever had a punk phase, this is surely it - pieces include a leather jacket with a Mickey-shaped silhouette picked out in studs, a pillar-box red snap top bag and a glossy black rucksack.
To help celebrate the launch of the collection, LOVE magazine has today released Dreams of Mickey: a new short film starring three of our favourite Insta girls; Kendall Jenner and Victoria’s Secret Angels Taylor Hill and Sara Sampaio. Shot by Alasdair McLellan, the short shows Kendall, Taylor and Sara modelling the Disney x Coach 1941 Mickey T-shirt (and a pair of knickers), as well as the specially created LOVE Club x Coach 1941 tote.
LOVEEditor-in-Chief (and longtime friend of Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers), Katie Grand was also tasked with curating Coach’s Soho store in New York, where the collection launched this weekend.
“I thought it would be fun to do something special to celebrate our Mickey Collection with Katie and LOVE,” said Vevers in a statement. “We’ve been friends for many years and have done lots of really jolly work together too, so it felt natural. I was hoping Katie would come up with a playful and naughty take on the collaboration. And she did!”
The collection rolls out to Coach stores internationally and on Coach.com this Friday (17 June).
