Betfred provides competitive odds, sports markets and a variety of special offers, making it one of the best on the UK betting scene

Introduction to Betfred

One of the most popular and widely used bookmakers in the UK, Betfred has become synonymous with the online betting scene. Famous in particular for its range of customer promotions and bonus opportunities, what else does Betfred offer?

Betfred is one of the remaining few UK bookmakers that still possesses a high-street presence, in addition to its desktop and mobile sites. This versatility means it attracts and meets the needs of a wide range of customers.

There are plenty of famous names on the UK betting scene, so where does Betfred rank? Here’s a look at what’s available for new and existing customers.

Sports markets available

One of the main attractions of Betfred is the range of sports and markets they offer. There are almost 30 different sports you can bet on here. Their menu of options encompasses favourites such as football, horse racing and basketball.

Football, in particular, is extremely well covered. At Betfred, you have the opportunity to bet on all major world leagues and competitions, as well as minor tournaments taking place across the globe, such as the Belarus Premier League.

You’ll also find that most Betfred promotions are focused on football, with unique offerings such as Goals Galore, Double Delight and Hat-trick Heaven.

Horse racing also gets the Betfred promotion treatment. You’ll find all UK and Irish meetings covered and you can bet on international races, taking place in France, South Africa, Australia and more.

Sports fans will be familiar with the corporate side of Betfred. Among the array of sponsorship deals this operator has in place is Betfred’s association with the World Snooker Championship, the World Matchplay Darts and the British Masters. Expect to see a number of promotions specific to these events on the Betfred site.

With promotions, Betfred excels. In terms of the number of separate odds offered, Betfred sometimes lags behind many of its competitors.

For example, for a typical Premier League game, some operators can offer upwards of 200 separate betting odds. Betfred, in general, offer much fewer.

Betfred Pick Your Punt

A recent addition to the Betfred armoury is Pick Your Punt. Many UK bookmakers have introduced some form of request a bet feature, and Pick Your Punt is Betfred’s offering.

Customers can essentially “build” their own bets, combining a range of markets to create their own unique wager. Alternatively, you can bet on Pick Your Punt markets already available on the site.

Generally, this feature is focused on football. There are opportunities, though, to use Pick Your Punt on cricket and tennis among other sports.

Licensing information

Starting life in the United Kingdom, the Betfred brand has now spread globally. For customers outside of the UK, Betfred is licensed by the Gibraltar Government and regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner.

In the UK, Betfred is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission of Great Britain. This means the operator has to abide by all rules and regulations set out by the commission.

Betfred needs to ensure all customers are aged 18 or above. It must also show willing to protect and assist any customer whom it believes may have an issue with gambling.

To do this, Betfred asks for personal details to be provided in the registration form. There is also the possibility that new or existing customers will be asked to provide additional documents to prove their identity.

Interface across desktop, mobile and app

One of the most important aspects of any online bookmaker is the platform itself. There’s little more frustrating in online betting than when you’re trying to place a bet, only to be foiled by a poor system, poor graphics or slow loading times.

The Betfred desktop sites works pretty seamlessly. There’s little wait when navigating between pages, with super-quick loading times. There’s no need to hunt around for your betting slip either, with your slip clearly displayed on the right of your screen.

Navigating the site is easy. Your betting options can be easily found on the left-hand side of your screen, making the process of finding the sports and markets you want a smooth one.

The ability to bet via a mobile device has certainly reinvigorated the market in recent years.

Betfred offers an extensive mobile betting service. You can access the site easily using the browser on your smartphone or tablet, gaining access to your full account no matter where in the country you are.

Alternatively, customers can download the dedicated Betfred mobile betting app. Available on both iOS and Android, it enables you to claim bonuses and promotions, including the welcome offer, directly from the app.

Betfred takes mobile play one step further with the possibility of betting using your Apple Watch. You can also place bets using Betfred Messenger.

In-play betting and live streaming

Live betting and streaming are key components to what many bettors look for in an online bookmaker. How well does Betfred compete with other top UK bookies? Let’s start by looking at its in-play betting options.

It’s fair to say that Betfred’s live betting service compares extremely well with what else is available on the market. Under its in-play umbrella, you’re likely to find a huge range of sports, including the following:

You also have the opportunity to bet on esports in play, an option that isn’t available on many of the UK’s top online bookmakers. To find out which events are taking place right now, head to the In-Play tab on the Betfred site.

Let’s move on to live streaming. This isn’t a necessity for an enjoyable betting experience but it is a good option to have, particularly if you don’t have access to other broadcast options.

There are a number of rules that apply to Betfred’s live-streaming service. These can vary, depending on which event you want to watch. In general terms, live streams can only be accessed if you have placed a bet on that particular event. There are occasions, though, when a funded account is all that’s required to unlock the stream.

Payment options

One of the most important, but often overlooked, aspects of online sports betting is your banking options. Betfred doesn’t disappoint here, offering a range of deposit and withdrawal methods for its customers to choose from.

Most banking information is clearly stated under the Help tab. This can also be accessed even without holding Betfred membership. We would, though, like to see maximum deposit amounts and accepted currencies clearly stated. They tend to be hidden away in the Help tabs. This is a minor observation, though.

Each payment option comes with separate terms and conditions of use. As we’ve stated elsewhere in our review, it’s important you read and understand all associated T&Cs before you attempt to transfer funds.

What payment methods are available to you? Let’s take a detailed look at your options.

Debit card

Using a debit card is one of the most popular ways to transfer funds to and from your betting account. Accepted cards consist of Visa, Visa Electron and Maestro. Betfred won’t charge you for using any of these cards, though it’s important you check with your banking institution if any fees will be applied by them.

To use a card, make sure the name and address of your banking account matches that of your Betfred account. To ensure the safety of your funds, Betfred uses Secure Code. Each time you make a deposit, you will be prompted to enter your unique password.

Before using a debit card for depositing funds, you might be asked to provide additional documents for authorisation purposes. This is also part of the Know Your Customer scheme, adopted by most UK online bookmakers.

What information is required? You might need to provide copies of the front and back of your card, a copy of your driving licence or passport and/or a copy of a recent utility bill or bank statement. The same could be asked for when you attempt to make a withdrawal.

The minimum deposit when using a debit card is £5. For withdrawals, you will need to use the same card you used to make a deposit. There are no fees applied for using this method. Minimum withdrawals are set at £5, with a maximum limit set at £9,999.99.

e-wallets

A common method of transferring funds online is to use e-wallets. Betfred allows deposits and withdrawals via three online wallets: Neteller, Skrill and PayPal.

With all e-wallets, the name and email address on your online wallet must match that on your Betfred account.

For Neteller customers, a minimum deposit of £5.50 applies. Betfred won’t charge you for depositing using your Neteller account, as long as you play through your deposit at least once.

To withdraw to your Neteller account, a minimum of £5 and a maximum of £4,000 limit applies. All withdrawals are free of charge, providing you’ve played through your initial deposit at least once. For all other withdrawals, a 2% charge applies.

On to Skrill. Users need to deposit at least £5. No fees are applied by Betfred. As for withdrawals, a minimum of £5 is required, with a maximum limit of £6,500.

Finally, PayPal. The minimum deposit amount for PayPal users is £5.50, with a minimum withdrawal set at £5. A maximum withdrawal amount of £5,000 also applies. Betfred don’t apply any fees for fund transfers using this method.

Paysafecard

Paysafecards and vouchers can provide an easy way to make deposits into your Betfred account. Once you’ve bought your voucher, you can enter the code on the Betfred deposits page.

Bank transfer

Depositing and withdrawing via bank transfer is also a possibility at Betfred. You can transfer funds this way no matter where in the world you are.

The minimum deposit for using this method is much higher than any other listed on the Betfred site, at £85. You will also need to allow at least two days for your deposit to be processed. Once it hits your betting account, Betfred will notify you by email.

You are allowed one free bank transfer withdrawal per 28 days. If you want to withdraw more often, fees apply. Betfred will charge you £25 for an urgent transfer, or £12 for a standard transaction.

There is no maximum limit for bank transfer withdrawals. The minimum withdrawal amount is £25.

Betfred shops

Betfred is a rare operator in that it is held in pretty high regard online and on the high street. You can make deposits and withdrawals to and from your online account using any Betfred shop.

This method can be time-consuming, though. The Betfred customer services team will need to be called to process any deposit or withdrawal. Make sure you also take identification for each transaction.

Customer service

All top UK bookmakers provide plenty of ways to get in touch with customer support, and Betfred is no different. If you encounter any issues with your betting account, there are a number of things you can do to solve them.

Firstly, take advantage of the in-depth Help menu found on the operator site. Betfred provide one of the most comprehensive menus you can find from any online bookie.

If you can’t find an answer, contacting customer support is your next step. There are a variety of ways in which you can do this. You can do this via Live Chat, Email and Telephone.

Social media has taken the world by storm in recent years, and bookmakers have certainly used this to their advantage. As well as using social media platforms to attract new customers, operators also provide help through these channels. You can contact the Betfred team via Facebook or Twitter. Allow a few hours for a response.

Summary

There’s much to be impressed with at Betfred. It’s easy to see why it is one of the leading names in the UK online betting scene.

The most attractive qualities Betfred offers include its range of unique promotions. These bonuses are generally offered on football and horse racing. It would be nice to see promotions spread across a number of sports all year, but this is a small criticism.

It’s clear that Betfred has gained a huge number of fans for its promotions and bonus opportunities alone. An increase in the number of separate odds on any given sporting event would push this bookmaker in the upper echelons of the online betting scene.
