How has your business been affected by Covid? We want to hear from you

Tell us what sacrifices you have had to make as a result of the coronavirus pandemic

Firms that survived the first lockdown are bracing themselves for yet more hardship after the Government introduced a new system of “Local Covid Alert Levels” in England.

Commonly known as the three-tier system, companies that operate in areas under the highest level, Tier 3, will be ordered to close.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak will help to keep staff in their jobs over winter through a new Job Support Scheme, but business owners are still struggling.

Peter Kinsella, who owns the Lunya deli and restaurant in Liverpool, where pubs face new restrictions, said: “It’s like the night of the living dead on the high street at the moment. One payroll can completely empty your bank account, so we’re having to look at how we keep going.

“We had a good three months of trading over summer, when everything opened up and we had Eat Out to Help Out, but we’re having to seriously consider laying off large numbers of staff as business has died.”

We want to hear from more business owners how they have fared during the coronavirus crisis and what the future holds for them under the Government’s new local lockdown system.
