ITV Racing tips today – Ayr and Newbury, Saturday 19 September
Our tipster has selections in all eight ITV races. You can read his persuasive cases below.
Odds correct at time of publishing and may be subject to change.
1.40 Newbury – Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (Group 3, 5f)
Equilateral has contested Group 1s on three of four starts this season and a reproduction of the run that earned him second in the King’s Stand would surely see him take this. He didn’t have much luck at York in July when fifth behind Moss Gill and should be spot on after a run in Ireland last weekend.
However, LAZULI looked very like a sprinter on the up when he landed a Listed race at Sandown in June for Charlie Appleby. He has been well held in both runs since but retains scope for better and might be the answer here.
Tip: Lazuli @ 11/4 with BetVictor
1.55 Ayr – Jordan Electrics Doonside Cup Stakes (Listed, 1m 2f)
Dual Group 1 winner ADDEYBB may be up to giving away his penalty and taking care of six rivals for William Haggas and Tom Marquand on what could be a big afternoon for the duo in Scotland.
He has been a model of consistency in his career and found only Lord North too strong at Royal Ascot in June on his only UK run this year, having earlier bagged a Group 1 double in Australia.
Conditions here look perfect and he can take the drop in class in his stride. Fox Chairman and Lord Glitters are dangers but San Donato is one to keep an eye on should he stay the new trip.
Tip: Addeybb @ 6/4 with BetVictor
2.15 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Handicap (1m 2f)
Mark Johnston’s runners often tend to leave behind a poor run in double-quick time and therefore this is a good chance for MAYDANNY.
He was a superb winner at Glorious Goodwood in July, looking a possible Pattern race candidate in the making, and clearly didn’t give his best on soft ground at York next time. He’s unexposed at this trip and can get back on track with the drying ground in his favour.
Tip: Maydanny @ 17/2 with BetVictor
2.30 Ayr – QTS Ayr Silver Cup Handicap (6f)
The consolation race for those that missed out on the Ayr Gold Cup, this is no less competitive.
King’s Lynn in the Royal silks could be a blot on the handicap. His Doncaster sales win from 12 months ago is strong form and his recent comeback on Town Moor was promising.
But preference is for the progressive ATALANTA’S BOY. David Menuisier’s charge got no run in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood, where he reared as the stalls opened, but delivered on the promise of his early summer form with a decisive success over the same course and distance last month. There could be more to come from him under a penalty.
Tip: Atalanta’s Boy @ 10/1 with BetVictor
2.50 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Stakes (Group 3, 1m 3f)
Desert Encounter has won this race twice and isn’t dismissed hastily after some solid recent efforts, while Extra Elusive was better than ever when landing the Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor (1m 2f, soft) last month on a landmark day for Hollie Doyle.
He is penalised for that success, however, and a peak-form ELARQAM will be tough to reel back in a field where Jim Crowley may be able to dictate things.
Tip: Elarqam @ 9/4 with BetVictor
3.05 Ayr – Scotty Brand Firth of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes (6f)
This looks to be all about Lowther Stakes third UMM KULTHUM (NAP), who had She’s So Nice behind in fourth on the Knavesmire. She didn’t get the best of starts and did well to get up and make the frame.
The form is strong, with runner-up Sacred inched out at Doncaster in the Flying Childers last weekend. York was only her second start and the Kodiac filly may take plenty of halting now.
Scarlet Bear and Illykato join She’s So Nice in leading the opposition but one with scope to get involved at a price is recent York winner Mamba Wamba for Adrian Nicholls.
Tip: Umm Kulthum @ 2/1 with BetVictor
3.25 Newbury – Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2, 6f)
Fivethousandtoone got his name from Leicester City’s unlikely Premier League triumph in 2016 but the well-bred son of Frankel was never going to be underestimated in the betting markets. He was turned over on debut but has since bolted up on the all-weather at Newcastle.
He’s going to improve again but there is more substance to the Group 1 third achieved by RHYTHM MASTER in France last month when he chased home Wesley Ward’s unbeaten colt Campanelle and fellow Royal Ascot winner Nando Parrado in the Prix Morny. That run gives him excellent prospects.
Tip: Rhythm Master @ 11/4 with BetVictor
3.40 – QTS Ayr Gold Cup (Heritage Handicap, 6f)
There’s much to like about the chances of Nahaarr, who didn’t appear to relish Goodwood in the Stewards’ Cup having been well backed. William Haggas and Tom Marquand team up with the Dark Angel colt and this track ought to suit better. He’s around three times the price and a massive player.
Roger Varian does well with runners at Ayr and SPANISH CITY is worthy of an each-way interest under in-form claimer Ray Dawson. His two Ascot runs over 6f give him claims and both lesser efforts this summer came at 7f.
Tip: Spanish City @ 18/1 with BetVictor
