Horse racing tips today: Wexford 20.05

Trainer Ado McGuinness will be confident that a sharp two miles around Wexford can play to the strengths of SIRJACK THOMAS after an encouraging handicap bow over hurdles at Punchestown 12 days ago.

A four-time winner on the Flat, Sirjack Thomas attained a peak rating of 88 in that code back in August. He won at the Galway Festival on soft ground and has repeatedly run well on heavy ground, which bodes well for today’s assignment.
His efforts over timber back in the spring were of little note, but his handicap debut off a mark of 98 recently was much more like it, as he stayed on into fifth from the rear of a 17-runner field.

He was given plenty ground to make up that afternoon and the hope is that he’ll be able to stay closer to the pace this time and produce a winning turn of foot on a track that ought to play to his strengths with his mark left alone following that opening gambit.

Tip: Sirjack Thomas @ 3/1 with bet365

The penalised pair of Curlew Hill and Do Your Job are respected in this two-mile Novices’ Hurdle for trainers Gordon Elliott and Michael Scudamore respectively.

However, the former is exposed enough while the latter was perhaps fortunate to win 18 days ago at Ffos Las when main market rival and perennial runner-up Truckers Pass jumped waywardly to his left in the closing stages and rather offered up the race to Brendan Powell’s mount.

That pair now must concede weight to hurdling newcomer CONFIRMATION BIAS for the red-hot Paul Nicholls stable. The Presenting gelding made a winning start in a Wincanton bumper last November and went back there on Boxing Day and finished second behind what looked a potentially very smart horse for Hughie Morrison in Supamouse, who has not raced since.

Confirmation Bias had previously changed hands for €150,000 and is bred to be a jumper. He returns with Team Ditcheat in thriving form and the Nicholls horses are routinely turning up at the races ready to go this autumn. He is a useful prospect and can make the most of the weight he gets from the previous hurdles scorers under Harry Cobden.

Tip: Confirmation Bias @ 4/1 with bet365

Horse racing tips today: Leicester 2.35

A six-runner race over a mile in the mud is exactly the sort of scenario in which Charlie Fellowes’ runner KING CARNEY is taken to thrive.

The Australia gelding won twice last October on soft going at Nottingham and Pontefract, the latter a Listed two-year-old contest. Both were races that he was able to dominate from the front end.

His assignments this term have been of the tough variety, down the field behind English King in a Lingfield Derby Trial on his return in June and last in the Group 3 Hampton Court Staes at Royal Ascot that same month.

After a mid-season break, he ran a much better race at Newbury (1m, good to soft) when a close third behind Tempus and the re-opposing Overwrite (first past the post, placed second).

Trained by Mark Johnston, Overwrite has yet to encounter ground as testing as this and, if we forgive King Carney a lesser run in the hustle and bustle of the Cambridgeshire since, he’s a likely sort to dominate this contest under ideal conditions with Adam Kirby in the saddle and drawn in stall one.

Tip: King Carney @ 8/1 with bet365
