Sometimes punters face a dilemma when a horse wins by a very wide margin. Can we trust the performance and expect to see something similar again or has it flattered the winner? Some look too good to be true and some don’t.
In the case of Mark Johnston’s NAAMOOS, a winner by some 17 lengths at Beverley (7½f, good to firm) on his second racecourse outing and first on turf, the feeling is that he is a very promising colt.
He’s by Wootton Bassett, a sire with a growing reputation, and his Beverley romp should not have come as a complete surprise, given he was 4/11 favourite to win.
That was on the back of a pleasing start on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last month. He was no match for the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Jadoomi that day but managed in turn to put five lengths between himself and the third home. The winner went to Longchamp on Arc weekend and landed the £157,000 Haras de Bouquetot Stakes by seven lengths.
Naamoos comes into this contest with a rating of 94 and, on his third start, looks sure to keep going the right way and he can take out the Silver Tankard Stakes over a mile.

Horse racing tips today: Plumpton 3.40
Paul Nicholls boasts a super 40 per cent strike-rate at Plumpton over the previous five seasons and the former champion trainer can get on the scoresheet with DR SANDERSON in this Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase over 2m 3½f.
Nicholls and stable jockey Harry Cobden are enjoying a fine time of things lately and there’s plenty evidence to suggest that the JP McManus-owned runner will strip fit and ready on his seasonal return, with the form of the Ditcheat team encouraging and the fact he defied 213 days off to make a winning bow for this stable after arriving from Ireland in October 2018 further supporting his case.
The best of his efforts in four chase starts last season was a runner-up effort over this trip at Ludlow in February and the drop to 2m at Kempton on his final start didn’t seem to have a positive effect.
He has scope for better and can hopefully continue what has been a brilliant autumn for his trainer/jockey team thus far.

An all-weather return can be the spark for TATHMEEN to get back to winning ways. Six of his seven career wins have been on the all-weather, including over course and distance last year, and he’s back at Wolverhampton with trainer Anthony Brittain enjoying a fine spell. A recent run of seven winners from 19 starters has earned a 40 per cent strike-rate for the yard.
This five-year-old has run well enough a couple of times on turf this autumn at Chester and Leicester over this 5f trip but wasn’t suited by the soft ground on his most recent start at York.
He’s back on the Tapeta rated 4lb below his most recent winning mark and has the 5lb claim of in-form Angus Villiers to further boost his credentials. With the yard in form, it would be a surprise if he’s not involved in the finish.
Tip: Tathmeen @ 9/4 with bet365
