Our expert delivers a trio of golf betting tips for each of the week’s biggest tournaments: the Italian Open and the ZOZO Championship

The Italian Open at Chervo Golf Club at San Vigilio di Pozzolengo, Lombardy, is the main event on the European Tour this week. Englishman Matt Walllace is among the favourites and will be hoping to go one better than last week, when he finished second in the Scottish Championship after Adrian Otaegui of Spain produced a nine-under-par final round of 63 to win.

Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, four of the world’s top five compete in the ZOZO Championship at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

Our expert has six selections in total, including a 55/1 outright shot in Lombardy. Backing his tips? You can track every drive, approach and putt from your selections with real-time shot-by-shot data and interactive course visualisations on bet365’s Live Golf Tracker.

Arnaus ready for breakthrough

Adria Arnaus has impressed since becoming a European Tour member and the power-packed Spaniard may have found the perfect venue for a maiden success in the shape of Chervo Golf Club.

The long, wide-open track plays into the hands of Arnaus, who triumphed twice in northern Italy on the Alps Tour in 2017, before winning the Challenge Tour Grand Final the following year. After three second places and a third on the European Tour in 2019, it could be time for a breakthrough.

Migliozzi could be home hero

Vicenza-born Guido Migliozzi was a prolific champion in his homeland at junior and amateur level, and this week provides a golden opportunity for the 23-year-old to flourish in his national Open.

Migliozzi, twice a winner in Italy on the Alps Tour, is blessed with the driving distance to cut Chervo down to size. He is chasing a third European Tour title and has shown plenty of courage in the past.

Nienaber going places fast

South African 20-year-old Wilco Nienaber looks like a potential world No 1, such is his effortless power and textbook swing, and the European Tour newcomer can be fancied to end the Italian Open as the top ‘Rest of the World’ player.

The market includes all the non-Europeans in the field – and Nienaber seems a cut above them all. He could be developing into the next Ernie Els and Chervo should suit him well.

Rahm raid on horizon

Jon Rahm arrived at Shadow Creek for the CJ Cup last week full of putting rust, and an abysmal week on the peculiar dancefloors of the Las Vegas venue meant the Spaniard failed to contend. Much better can be anticipated from him in the ZOZO Championship.

Expect the highest-ranked player in attendance to show his class in his final Masters warm-up event.

Rahm admitted he had not practised his putting since the US Open prior to Shadow Creek – the greens near his home were not up to scratch – but his swing was in great shape and Sherwood is a course that sets up better for him. Rahm’s first two PGA Tour wins came in California.

Trust hotshot Hovland

Viktor Hovland has been one of the most consistent post-lockdown PGA Tour performers, playing the weekend in all 13 of his events, and finishing in the top 25 in nine of them.

The musclebound Norwegian youngster, 13th in the US Open and 12th in the CJ Cup, should relish the five par-fives at Sherwood and can go close to a second Tour title.

Morikawa seems menacing

Tiger Woods has won five times at Sherwood, thanks largely to his magnificent iron play, and Collin Morikawa is arguably the best iron player on the PGA Tour. Morikawa and Sherwood should be a match made in heaven and he can end the week as top American.

Two of Morikawa’s three PGA Tour titles have come on Jack Nicklaus-designed courses – and he will relish tackling another of the Golden Bear’s creations this week.
