Our trio of Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir tips include punts that have landed in two of United’s three group games to date

Manchester United will be seeking revenge for a surprise 2-1 defeat in Turkey when they welcome Istanbul Basaksehir to Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday.

United’s European campaign had been running smoothly after wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, however, Basaksehir halted their winning run against a below-par United side.

Despite falling to a 2-1 defeat, United still remain top of Group H but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be keen to secure a win that would put his side on the brink of a place in the last 16.

Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir

United finally recorded their first Premier League home win of the campaign when they beat West Brom 1-0 at the weekend, however the Reds have been more fluent at Europe and were rampant at Old Trafford when RB Leipzig came to town. They can gain revenge for the loss they suffered against Basaksehir in Istanbul.

Hosts to put on United front

United’s loss in Turkey came just three days after a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal in the league and Solskjaer’s future was immediately questioned.

It was not just the result that led to the Norwegian being criticised, but the manner in which United went down, with two pieces of poor defending proving costly.

But as has been the case on several occasions when Solskjaer has been under pressure, the Red Devils have responded well since, winning their last two matches.

The former striker seems to have the full backing of the dressing room and will be relying on that support once again on Tuesday as they look to take revenge.

There is also the added motivation that a victory would put United on the brink of a place in the round of 16 with two games to play.

A United win doesn’t offer huge value but pairing that with a victory with under 3.5 goals scored makes it a much more attractive prospect.

Each of United’s last two outings at Old Trafford have ended 1-0, the victory over West Brom and the defeat by the Gunners, while under 3.5 goals have been scored in three of the last four on home soil.

Although Basaksehir impressed in the reverse fixture, they don’t tend to carry the same threat on the road and have lost five of their seven away games in all competitions this season.

Tip: Manchester United to win and under 3.5 goals @ 21/20 with bet365

Rashford to wrap up the points

Marcus Rashford has been in the headlines on and off the field this term and he is well worth some interest going into Tuesday’s fixture.

The England striker hasn’t made a hugely positive start to the Premier League season, scoring twice in eight starts, but he has been a different beast in Europe.

He put in a hugely impressive display at home to RB Leipzig in October, scoring a first hat-trick for the club after coming off the bench as United ran out convincing 5-0 winners.

Rashford also impressed in the victory at Paris Saint-Germain when he popped up with the winning goal in the closing stages.

Indeed, he has scored the last goal in two of United’s three outings in the competition this season and it appears his pace is causing problems for tired defenders in the latter stages.

Tip: Marcus Rashford last goalscorer @ 15/4 with bet365

Penalty trend to continue

United have earned a reputation over recent seasons for being the penalty kings and 2020-21 has been no different. Backing them to score a penalty has been hugely profitable.

They have been awarded 30 spot-kicks in the Premier League since the start of 2018-19, topping the charts in each of the last two seasons, and they are joint-second in the rankings this term.

The Red Devils have scored two penalties in three Champions League ties this season and if, as expected, they spend most of Tuesday's game on the front foot, another could be on the cards.

Tip: Manchester United to score a penalty @ 5/2 with bet365
