Liverpool vs Sheffield United predictions and tips: Premier League preview and odds
We are backing Liverpool to win to nil over Sheffield United

Our Liverpool vs Sheffield United preview and betting tips include a return to winning ways for the hosts but more woes for the Blades

A depleted Liverpool will be hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday when they welcome struggling Sheffield United to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will again be without key players, but this still looks like a winnable fixture for the Reds against a Blades side who have yet to register a win in any competition this season.

Liverpool vs Sheffield United predictions

Although they have some injury concerns, Liverpool still pick up three points. Sheffield United have lost much of last season’s confidence and momentum and the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firimino will make it a tough afternoon. Fabinho was outstanding in defence in the Champions League win over Ajax and Liverpool should contain and outscore a shot-shy Blades side.

Champions to overpower visitors

Scoring goals has not been a problem for Liverpool this season, with only surprise leaders Everton and Tottenham Hotspur netting more times in the Premier League.

Their problems have been at the other end of the pitch. No team have conceded more goals than the 13 they have shipped in five league games and their cause has not been helped by the absence through injury of goalkeeper Alisson and key central defender Virgil van Dijk.

Those two players will once again be unavailable on Saturday, but Liverpool showed they can defend resolutely in their absence, as they kept a clean sheet when beating Ajax 1-0 in the Champions League during the week.

Liverpool will also benefit from facing a Sheffield United side who have scored just two goals in five league matches this term and failed to register in either meeting with the Reds last season.

Indeed, the Blades have scored just once in their last five meetings with Liverpool, so backing Klopp’s side to win to nil on Saturday could prove a shrewd choice.

Salah to fire Liverpool to victory

Mohamed Salah has been the key man for Liverpool in the Premier League so far this season, netting six times in five games, including his 100th goal for the club in last Saturday’s drawn Merseyside derby.

The Egyptian star reached that milestone in just 159 appearances, making him the third quickest to do so in a Liverpool shirt, behind only Jack Parkinson and Roger Hunt.

The 28-year-old knows all about scoring against Chris Wilder's side, as he netted the opener in last season's corresponding fixture.

Backing the former Roma ace to once again open the scoring on Saturday could be the way to go, particularly as even more expectation will be on his shoulders if fellow forward Sadio Mané misses out, the Senegalese having limped off against Ajax during the week.

Patience may pay for Liverpool

It has been a tough start to the season physically and mentally for Liverpool, with the loss of key players to injury coinciding with a tough derby battle against Everton and a potentially scarring 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa.

Confidence has certainly been dented within Klopp’s camp and that could be reflected by a slow start this weekend. Liverpool didn’t find it easy against United last season, despite winning both games, and it would be no surprise to see Saturday’s match play out like the meeting at Bramall Lane just over a year ago.

That game ended in a 1-0 victory for Liverpool, with Georginio Wijnaldum grabbing the only goal of the game inside the final 20 minutes.

A similar pattern could well unfold on Saturday, particularly as United are likely to adopt a defensive approach given their own lack of firepower in the final third.
