Liverpool vs Atalanta tips: Champions League preview and odds

Liverpool are flying form and the Anfield side can ensure they are in the hat for the Champions League round of 16 with victory against Gian Piero Gasperini’s visitors.
The Reds have won all three of their Group D matches to date, including a 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta when the teams met in Bergamo this month.
That result took Jurgen Klopp’s side five points clear at the top of Group D and they will be confident of progressing against their Italian opponents, who have won just one of their last six outings in all competitions.
Liverpool vs Atalanta predictions
Liverpool made a mockery of their lengthy injury list to beat Leicester City 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday evening and they can record another authoritative victory over the attack-minded visitors, who they demolished in Italy before the international break.

Reds to outscore opponents
Liverpool have been dealing with a number of injuries of late, particularly in defence where the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain unavailable, but that does not appear to have affected their form.
Indeed, the Merseysiders are unbeaten in eight games across all competitions and their victory over Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday set a new club record of 64 home league matches without defeat.
The Reds have won all six of their home matches in the Premier League and Champions League this season, most recently brushing Leicester aside by a 3-0 scoreline. After putting five past Atalanta in Bergamo, there’s every reason to expect another goal-heavy showing from the hosts here.
However, they may not have it all their own way, as Atalanta certainly know where the back of the net is. Gasperini’s side finished as the top scorers in Serie A last season with a staggering 98 goals, while they are averaging more than two goals a game this term as well.
Tip: Liverpool to win and over 3.5 goals in the match @ 2/1 with bet365
Klopp’s side to lead from the front
Liverpool have made a habit of making fast starts over recent weeks, scoring the first goal in four of their last five matches, while they were able to build on a first-half lead and record resounding victories over both Atalanta and Leicester City.
Indeed, the Reds have scored in the first half of 11 of their 14 matches across all competitions this season and they will fancy their chances of continuing that run against an Atalanta side who have conceded the first goal in four of their last six games and have won just one of those fixtures.
It will certainly be no surprise if Wednesday’s match follows a similar pattern to that of the reverse meeting at the Gewiss Stadium, when Liverpool led 2-0 at the break before winning 5-0.

No stopping Jota
Even the most positive of Liverpool supporters could not have predicted just what an instant impact summer signing Diogo Jota has had since arriving on Merseyside, with the Portugal striker netting eight goals in his first seven starts for the club.
The 23-year-old has particularly caught the eye in the Champions League, and is the competition's joint-leading scorer this season with four goals, three of which came against Atalanta when the sides met in Bergamo.
Jota has shown he is capable of getting the better of the Italian side’s defence and he is likely to start once again on Wednesday, given there are no guarantees Mohamed Salah will be available for Klopp’s side.

Liverpool team news
The news Mohamed Salah is in contention to return is a big positive for Liverpool, while there is a chance that Jordan Henderson and/or Thiago Alcantara may play some part at Anfield. But Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri are all out, so youngsters Nico Williams, Rhys Williams and Curtis Jones could all start.
Liverpool predicted line-up (4-3-3): Alisson; N Williams, R Williams, Matip, Robertson; Jones, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Jota.
Atalanta team news
The Italian side were given a boost at the weekend when Robin Gosens, Pierluigi Gollini, José Luis Palomino and Marten de Roon all returned to action after injury in the draw with Spezia. However, Mattia Caldara, Fabio Depaoli and Ruslan Malinovskyi remain unavailable for selection.
Atalanta predicted line-up (3-5-2): Gollini; Tolói, Palomino, Djimsiti; Hateboer, Pasalic, Freuler, Mojica, Gomez; Zapata, Muriel.
