We are backing a comfortable home win as part of our expert tipster’s three England vs Denmark betting tips

England will get the chance to build on their 2-1 victory against the world’s number one nation, Belgium, and win over the doubters when they face Denmark on Wednesday in Nations League Group A2.

Gareth Southgate’s side have developed a happy knack of winning games without being at their best but the onus will be on them to produce a more dynamic display against a Denmark team unlikely to pose the kind of attacking threat Belgium did.

The Danes have built a reputation for being a strong, functional unit but they do boast some talented firepower in the shape of Christian Eriksen, Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen.

England vs Denmark predictions

The last meeting between England and Denmark was a drab 0-0 draw last September with both sides mustering just two shots on target each. Romelu Lukaku’s penalty on Sunday broke an impressive run of six cleans sheets for England, and the Danes could struggle to break down the Three Lions’ stubborn defence while leaving themselves open at the back. We are backing a 2-0 win for England at 8/1.

England to win battle of the defences

The irregular nature of the fixture calendar has meant games are coming thick and fast after a shortened pre-season but after some disjointed performances in September, England’s displays this month have provided far more cause for optimism.

Last month's uninspiring 1-0 win in Iceland was followed by a turgid 0-0 draw against the Danes, a continued meanness in defence being the most positive factor from an England perspective.

Indeed, after scoring 38 goals in 10 games in 2019, so far 2020 seems to have been England's year of the defence and they face a Denmark team who have proved similarly thrifty. Including Sunday's 3-0 win in Iceland, the Danes have kept eight clean sheets in their last ten outings.

Those sturdy foundations supported the victory in Reykjavik but whether Denmark have the ingenuity to puncture the England rearguard remains to be seen.

Rashford hitting form

It has been a memorable 2020 for Rashford, with his community work off the field earning him an MBE for services to vulnerable children in the UK.

The 22-year-old celebrated his award by netting the Three Lions' opener on Sunday, becoming the fourth Manchester United player to score in four consecutive competitive England appearances, joining Bobby Charlton, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney in that select group.

Southgate's decision to leave him on the bench for the friendly against Wales and bring him back to face Belgium suggests he is an important part of his plans and the United star is likely to partner Harry Kane in attack on Wednesday.

Kane has tended to play slightly deeper both for Tottenham and England this season so Rashford could well carry England's greatest goalscoring threat.

Improvement on Copenhagen...but only just

The Nations League has broadly succeeded in its remit of providing more competitive international matches and it could be argued that England’s forgettable goalless draw against the Danes in September was due, in part at least, to fatigue after a record-long season for the players.

The teams managed just four shots on target between them in Copenhagen, that tally being England's lowest since a goalless draw against Croatia in October 2018.

A cagey clash is likely so punters who like over/under markets may look at the 4/5 on under 2.5 goals.

However, having scored in both halves against Wales and Belgium, England/England in the Half-Time/Full-Time market might be more on the money against a team they look to have the edge over.

England vs Denmark odds

England are the odds-on 4/6 favourites with the home advantage of playing at Wembley, with Denmark 4/1 underdogs and the draw priced at 14/5.

England team news

Eric Dier has pulled out of the squad with a hamstring injury, meaning Conor Coady is likely to take his place alongside Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker in a back three. Injury has also forced Ben Chilwell out of contention so Ainsley Maitland-Niles will likely get a chance at left wing-back with Reece James on the right. Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are expected to start up front.

England predicted line-up (3-4-3): Pickford; Walker, Coady, Maguire; James, Rice, Phillips, Maitland-Niles; Sancho, Kane, Rashford.

Denmark team news

Kasper Schmeichel will be in goal with Daniel Wass, Simon Kjaer, Andreas Christensen and Robert Skov in front of him in defence. Eriksen should start in attacking midfield with Martin Braithwaite and Christian Poulsen either side and Kasper Dolberg up front.

Denmark predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Wass, Kjaer, Christensen, Skov; Delaney, Hojbjerg; Poulsen, Eriksen, Braithwaite; Dolberg.
