Chelsea vs Liverpool tips: Premier League preview and odds
We are tipping over 3.5 goals at 6/4 for Chelsea vs Liverpool

We are backing there to be goals galore at both ends at Stamford Bridge as part of our three best Chelsea vs Liverpool tips

Chelsea will put their Premier League title-challenger credentials to the test as they host reigning Champions Liverpool in the weekend’s blockbuster clash.

Both teams started the new campaign with victories, and the odds suggest they will both be competing for the championship come May.

While Liverpool cruised to the crown last year, Chelsea have some catching up to do, but they can make a statement on home soil this weekend.

Fireworks expected in the capital

If the opening weekend is anything to go by, fans are in for a treat when these sides meet on Sunday.

Chelsea travelled to the Amex Stadium on Monday night and recorded a 3-1 victory over Brighton, with their new signings immediately looking at home in the Premier League.

Liverpool faced a battle to keep Leeds United at bay in an opening-day thriller at Anfield before running out 4-3 winners. Promoted Leeds put up a great fight but Liverpool found a way to get the three points, which is a sign of a champion team.

These sides last met on 22 July, when Liverpool won 5-3 on Merseyside, and we expect similar entertainment this weekend. Defensively, Liverpool looked shaky at the back, and if Leeds can score three times, then Chelsea certainly can.

Predicting a winner is difficult at this stage of the season, but we believe over 3.5 goals is the best bet for this contest.

Tip: Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4 with Betfred

Defences face unenviable task

Liverpool’s clash with Leeds showed they need to tighten up at the back and Chelsea also have defensive shortcomings from last season to iron out.

Both the Blues and Liverpool possess a plethora of attacking options, and goals at both ends could well be on the agenda. Previous head-to-head battles suggest a clean sheet for either side is unlikely.

In the last 20 meetings between these two English giants, both teams have scored on 15 occasions, and that run should continue this month.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score @ 8/11 with Betfred

Salah can punish former club

Egypt striker Mohamed Salah was never given a proper chance at Chelsea, but at Liverpool he has demonstrated how deadly he can be in front of goal.

Salah is Liverpool’s main attacking threat and he opened his account for the season last weekend with a hat-trick against Leeds.

The former Roma ace scored two penalties and a beautiful shot to ensure the Reds secured three points and he will be confident of carrying that on this weekend.

Salah did not score in any of the four meetings between the teams last season, his most recent goal against Chelsea coming in a 2-0 win in April 2019.

However, his performance against Leeds showed he is already in great touch, and we expect him to find the back of the net this weekend.

Tip: Mohamed Salah to score at any time @ 11/10 with Betfred

Chelsea vs Liverpool odds

Liverpool are fancied as the favourites at 23/20 with Chelsea priced at 11/15 despite being at home. The draw at Stamford Bridge can be backed at 13/5.

Chelsea team news

Christian Pulisic remains sidelined along with new signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell. Kai Havertz and Timo Werner should get their second starts for the Blues while Mateo Kovacic could return to the midfield after serving his suspension. Jorginho is expected to be fit despite suffering cramp against Brighton.

Chelsea predicted line-up (4-3-3): Arrizabalaga; Alonso, Zouma, Christiensen, James; Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic; Havertz, Mount, Werner

Liverpool team news

Salah will be joined up top by Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino while the midfield three will be made up of Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum. The defence is expected to be unchanged despite conceding three at home against Leeds, made up of centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez with Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold the full-backs.

Liverpool predicted line-up (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Keita, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
