Supermarket brand Aldi has launched its first offering in the ever-expanding (and money-making) vegan skincare market, so naturally I was intrigued. Would a cheap face cream really cut it (especially in cold and dry January) and how well would the cleanser get rid of dirt and grime from the polluted London air? I wouldn’t think twice about buying a budget mascara or lipstick from the supermarket aisles (some of the best make-up out there is under £10) but skincare is a whole different beast.
The range includes a face scrub and face wash at £2.99 each, and sitting at the top-end of the range, a £5.99 day cream. The formulations aren't super high-tech and this definitely isn't a range to reach for if you want to address any ageing concerns like fine lines or pigmentation. I'm not keen on the apricot seed face scrub as it felt a bit scratchy, but the face wash was fabulous: creamy, luxurious beyond it's price tag and best removed with a hot flannel. Its blend of coconut oil and shea butter feel great on the skin and I would happily swap it for my current, considerably more pricey cleanser. If you're prone to spots, however, the formula may be too rich in texture for you.
If you can't get your hands on the Aldi Lacura cleanser, here are three of my favourite purse-friendly skincare buys to give a try.
A lovely light cleanser that removes all traces of make-up and leaves the skin soft and bouncy. It lasts for ages, too.
Quench dry skin with this hyaluronic acid-packed face cream. It's lovely under make-up.
Brighten a dull complexion with this budget face wash - it's excellent.
