As a publication, we’ve always tried to suggest to you, the reader, the best beauty products to enhance your life. For us, beauty isn’t about trying to ‘turn back the clock’, or ‘fight the signs of ageing’. Why should we fight against life experience, laughter and, on occasion, one too many gin and tonics? No, for us at Stella, beauty is about looking your best. Not followed by the disclaimer ‘for your age’, because who cares what number that is? Feel great and that’s it. So, here’s our commitment to write about the products to help you age smartly.
Look out for our new Smart Ager stamp of approval on the skincare products that will really make your skin look visibly better, healthier and brighter. The facialist Teresa Tarmey told me recently that her clients are now after this new skin ideal; five years ago, it was about throwing anything at the issue of ageing.
Now it’s about hydration – which leads me on to some of my new favourite finds in the ‘thirsty skin’ category. I took the Carita Lagoon Serum with me on holiday and it really improved the condition of my skin. Layered under SPF, it provides a noticeable boost of moisture. At £65.90 it’s definitely not the cheapest around, but for a mid-range powerful serum, it delivers.
Another great option is the Hydra Boost Finishing Serum by American dermatology brand DCL. A ‘finishing serum’, from what I can deduce, is essentially a very souped-up primer. Its light, almost watery texture of is thanks to the wonder-hydrating ingredient hyaluronic acid. It’s packed full of the stuff, and because the serum is so light, it helps lock in moisture where you need it the most. It’s closer to the £100 mark but you only really need a little each morning.
I’m also excited that the American megabrand Glossier has launched in the UK. Don’t let the millennial pink packaging fool you: this is a very good skincare and make-up brand for all ages, and well-priced, too. I love the Super Bounce Serum – with its mix of hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5, it’s a great all-rounder for dehydrated skin.
