President Trump's state visit to the UK has been a hot topic of discussion recently, and as he and First Lady Melania touched down in the UK this morning, the political world was watching. The two disembarked Air Force One to mark the beginning of their state visit this week during which, they will meet the Queen, attend numerous meetings and an official dinner at Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. Whilst most of the attention, understandably, falls on her President husband, Mrs Trump always makes quite the diplomatic statement herself with her impeccable fashion and beauty style.

Pomp and protocol aside, there are a few lessons in beauty that we can learn from the First Lady of the United States. Set to turn fifty next year, Melania remains the pinnacle of age by consistently demonstrating a youthful and timeless look, despite getting older. Mrs Trump's beauty regime never fails to be a mix of sophistication and elegance, and is the perfect example of a go-to routine for women over 40. Having already given paid homage to Princess Diana with a My-Fair-Lady inspired suit and hat combo, we can't wait to see what else the First Lady has up her sleeve. Here's how to channel Melania's beauty style.

Melania's hair has become a solid staple in her everyday beauty style. Despite stepping over to the blonde-side last year, the First Lady is back to her iconic golden-brown blow dry that takes her from morning to evening come rain or shine. This signature style is a great and achievable style for those wanting an unfailing finish that will remain in tact and ensure a polished look.

Elena Lavagni, owner of Neville Hair & Beauty, says that Melania's hair is great example of enhancing your look with little effort. "Well placed highlights and a new haircut can always make an incredible difference in updating and freshening your appearance, especially when you are a First Lady". And there's an added bonus, too. "Warm tones soften any harshness to your face which helps maintain a more youthful silhouette", Lavagni advises.

If you thought achieving Melania's hairstyle would be tricky without the help of a costly personal stylist, think again. "One thing I have noticed is her new lack of hair extensions; this is giving her a more natural, attainable and approachable look", notes Lavagni. "The blunter looking haircut probably has been done to add weight and structure to her new naked hair."

Think like Melania: ditch the extensions, get a fresh cut and add warm tones for a subtle, sophisticated and youthful look.

There's often an assumption that women over 40 need to change their make up due to age, Mrs Trump is a case in point that this doesn't have to be the case. Her make-up regime has stood the test of time and always ensures a fresh finish. Whilst we're unsure on who Melania has brought with her for the state visit this week, her glam squad is usually never far away to keep her looking her best.

Melania's makeup artist Nicole Bryl, has worked with Melania for over 15 years and is a key player in ensuring her make-up is always elegant and professional. Melania 's go-to look is always bronzed, fresh skin paired with a nude lip, and smokey eyes to finish, a look we're sure that she'll be sporting throughout her time in the UK this week. Try NARS Bronzing Powder, Laguna, £31 for a natural glow.

Bryn says, "Melania favours a dramatic eye look over a dramatic lip" with Bryn's focus on drawing attention to Mrs Trump's blue eyes. A great smokey eye palette to try is Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette, £48. The key here is to follow in Melania's footsteps and choose one or the other. If a bold lip is more your style, then keep the eyes subtle. But if, like Melania, you prefer a dramatic eye look then keep the lip simple so you don't overdo it. You can never go wrong with a nude lip. Try Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Buff, £22.

It's no secret that Melania prefers a bronzed look and today was no different. Mrs Trump's skin was glowing and golden as she stepped off Air Force One onto British soil. If you rely on self tan to provide a sun-kissed hue, then don't be fooled into thinking it's strictly for your 20s. As long as your skin is prepped and ready then, like Melania, don't let age hold you back. Exfoliated and moisturised skin will not only ensure your tan is applied evenly, but will enhance the glow.

A golden tan is the perfect way to inject a little glamour into your look. A natural glow will also freshen up any look and make you look more youthful- an ideal add-on for summer. Try Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse, Dark, £25.

We all know the Queen prefers a natural nail colour rather than bold and bright. Luckily for Melania, this is her usual style. A nude or pale pink is Melania's go-to when it come to manicures and is a great versatile option for her many outfit changes on state visits.

But this isn't only applicable to the First Lady. A subtle splash of colour on the nails is a fail-safe way to channel a chic, finished look whilst remaining professional. If you're wanting a manicure that will go with any outfit and look sophisticated and smart, then a pale pink like Essie's Ballet Slippers £7.99 is a no-brainer.
