She only turned 16 last week but Kate Moss's daughter Lila has just shot her first high-profile beauty campaign. The striking image of Lila fronting a Marc Jacobs beauty range was revealed last night on Instagram - proving the daughter of Kate Moss and magazine editor Jefferson Hack to be following in her mother's supermodel footsteps.
Kate Moss is famously good friends with Marc Jacobs, who spoke yesterday of having first met Lila at the age of six. "When I met Lila Grace for the first time in 2008," he wrote on his Instagram page, "I was on a holiday in Ibiza and went to Formentera for the day to visit with her mom, Kate Moss, and other friends and family. At just six years old, Lila's strong character, demeanor and great beauty was already very apparent.
He continues, "The next time I saw Lila was in August of 2011 at Kate’s wedding, her character was even more dynamic and her beauty even greater. This past July is the last time I saw Lila. It was a bit surreal to have Kate in the studio with Lila as it brought back memories of the first time I met Kate when she was 18 years old and cast to walk for the Perry Ellis’ Spring/Summer 1993 Grunge Collection."
The beauty campaign with Lila was shot in July this summer, with a leading team consisting photographer David Sims, stylist Katie Grand, hairstylist Guido Palau and make-up artist Diane Kendal. The full shoot will be revealed on October 11th when the beauty range goes on sale in Harvey Nichols in London. “Shooting the campaign in New York was a really fun experience,” Lila said. “I’ve known Marc since I was little and had heard a lot about Guido from my mum.”
It's hard not to draw parallels between the mother and daughter: Lila is around the same age as Kate when she started modelling. In an interview with Stella magazine last year, 44 year-old Kate commented, "I was very young when I started modelling so I really support recent changes in the industry to protect the well-being of models. It’s something I feel passionately about for the models we represent at my agency, I don’t want them to feel pressured in any way."
Lila Moss is, of course, represented by her mother's modelling agency, which also has Lottie Moss on its books - the 20 year-old sister of Kate who was 'discovered' aged 13 at Kate’s wedding to Jamie Hince. She has since fronted her own campaign for Calvin Klein.
"The whole modelling scene is completely different to when I first started out," Kate told Stella magazine. "Everything now is so instant with digital photography and there’s no mystique. I don’t have any personal accounts on social media, I’m just not into posting about personal stuff online."
Moss has tried to keep her personal life as private as possible - the last real glimpse we had of Lila was last year when Kate was spotted taking her daughter for a birthday celebration at Thorpe Park.
"I like to live a normal life away from work," Kate added. "It’s really important for me to have friends around me who go way back. I like hanging out together with my friends and our children who have all grown up together." Kate is godmother to Iris Law, the 17-year-old model daughter of her close friend Sadie Frost, who was herself part of a beauty shoot for Burberry last year.
So will Lila be the next big name in modelling? Judging by the fact that her mother has fronted campaigns for almost every luxury brand including Chanel, Dior and Burberry, and graced over 40 British Vogue covers, there's no-one better to guide Lila through the world of modelling than the original supermodel herself.
