We beauty editors love to celebrate the treasures to be found in a foreign pharmacy. The Parisians, in particular, possess a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to putting themselves together, so it’s no wonder that cult French brands such as La Roche Posay, Embryolisse and Institut Esthederm have been hits here in Britain.
But now that we’ve left the EU, I’ve been doing a recce of home-grown beauty talent. It’s easy to pinpoint traditional names such as Floris, Penhaligon’s and Crabtree & Evelyn; but we’re also blessed with cult classics and super-smart skincare that are more than up to the standard of our European favourites.
There are British make-up legends Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath for a glamour fix; Sarah Chapman and Elemis for luxury, feel-good skincare; and Dr Maryam Zamani and Dr Michael Prager for serious smart ageing. Meanwhile Isle of Paradise and Bare by Vogue Williams are experts at self-tanning, plus Ren and Votary are acing the clean beauty scene… the list goes on.
So, if you’re after an expert-approved edit of the British beauty landscape, I bring you my 10 favourite UK beauty products – some new, some classics.
