The best aftershaves and men's gifts to buy for Father's Day 2020
Consider yourself reminded: it’s Father’s Day next Sunday. Why not treat him to one of our favourite grooming gifts?
Since the start of lockdown, the male grooming market has exploded, with all online retailers reporting huge spikes in sales. This is no surprise considering all the DIY barbering efforts going on up and down the country. With Father’s Day falling next Sunday, I’ve put together some of my favourite buys to give your dad a helping hand.
Let’s start with Typology, a new unisex French skincare range by the founder of Made.com, which hit UK shores last month. Of course, there’s all the usual chic Parisian trimmings (apothecary bottles and quiet branding) but the products are really great, too. This Thursday it launches the LAB range of moisturisers – the vitamin C one is really good quality for under £20, and will leave his skin brighter and softer.
For label lovers really into grooming – who want something smart-looking on the bathroom shelf, at that – you can’t go wrong with any of the Bleu de Chanel range. Its Shaving Cream is super luxurious and the woody scent is as delicious as you’d expect.
For those with beards (and I’d imagine there are far more beards out there now than before lockdown), I recommend the nourishing Argan Beard Oil by the barbers Ruffians. It’s what I’ll be getting my husband from the kids.
As for scent, there are so many fantastic options available, but Acqua di Parma is my winner for its classic, splashy colognes. Colonia is beautiful, the juice made better only by its iconic art-deco bottle. I also love the luxurious yet crowd-pleasing Velvet Mughetto by Dolce & Gabbana, or for a more purse-friendly option, try Roger & Gallet’s L’Homme Cedre.
For any man eager to up his grooming game and learn some new skills, this Tuesday John Lewis & Partners is hosting a virtual workshop on Zoom with lots of skincare and haircare advice from an expert team of barbers. The session is £10, redeemable against grooming products on the site – see here, to book Dad in.
