On the hunt for a new men's grooming essential?  Every fortnight, our grooming expert, Lee Kynaston, will be rounding up the best products that have earned his seal of approval.

From leathery autumnal fragrances to skincare products that put the fun back into grooming, these are the 8 products to invest in now.

Good-clean-fun skincare

One of the main reasons men don’t bother with skincare is because, let’s face it, it’s not much fun. I mean, who gets excited about exfoliation or emotional at the sight of an eye cream?  It doesn’t have to be that way, though.

There are plenty of products out there – from self-heating razors and brightly coloured face masks to skin-peeling socks  (if you think picking at sunburnt skin is fun, wait until you try these) – that will transform  a boring bathroom routine into one of  the highlights of the day.

Not only do these novel products  deliver great results, they’re also huge fun to use. And in the same way that you’re more likely to get fit if the exercise you do  is enjoyable, you’re more likely to look your best if your grooming regime is  a giggle. Which is great news for your appearance – and even better news for your inner eight-year-old.

Urban Blue Detox Clay Mask, £27, Lab Series
Heated Razor for Men Starter Kit, £199,  Gillette Labs
 Foot Peel, £7.95,  Barber Pro
Skin Roller  3 in 1, £63, Swiss Clinic

Autumn scents go hell for leather

With temperatures plummeting and nights drawing in, chances are you’re scuttling around the shops trying to find just the right sweater  to complete your autumnal wardrobe.

While you’re at it, though, you might want to pick up a new fragrance, because in the same way citrus scents suit summer, heavier, richer ones tend to be better for a season where warmth and comfort are key.  Perfect for that ‘sat in front of a fire with a single malt’ vibe we’re all craving right now are the new leather-based offerings.

These range from Malin + Goetz, whose perfume oil is finally available as an eau de parfum spray, to Frédéric Malle’s spicy Rose & Cuir, £200 (a real neck nuzzler) and AllSaints, whose light Leather Skies is the perfect day scent.

My fave pick, though, is Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather Intense, £315 – a fragrance so ludicrously sexy, it’ll have you exploring all manner of alternative ways to keep warm this autumn – none of which involve clothing.

Leather Skies,  £49 for 100ml edp, AllSaints
