Give a subtle glow, a beautiful bronze or figure-flattering definition. A-list tanner James Read, whose clients include Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, decodes 2015’s trends.

The Gentle Glow (pictcured above): James says: "To create a lovely low-key glow, apply a self-tan mousse for an hour – or two, max – then wash it off. This will give just a gentle amount of colour.”

The Kit: Day Tan Body, £25, James Read, Radiance Gel Bronzer, £51, Chantecaille, Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink,£18.50, Bobbi Brown Lip Lustre in Flamant, £22, Surratt

James says: "If you want a deep tan, leave on a bronzing mousse for three hours to allow it to develop fully. Apply with a mitt for easier blending, and to make sure your tan stays even.”

The Kit: Express Mousse, £30, James Read, The Matte Bronzing Veil in Desert Days, £36, Kevyn Aucoin, Lipstick in Pink, Pigeon, £15.50, Mac

The Sunkissed Face

James says: “Use a gradual tanner on the face for a nice base with a subtle glow. It’s so easy to create and you can put make-up straight over the top. My new Freckle Pen contains tanning agents, so you can achieve freckles that will stay for a couple of days.”

The Kit: Day Tan SPF15 Face, £22, and Freckle Pen, £15, both James Read, Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder, £35.50, Guerlain, Expressioniste Brow Pomade, £18.50, Surratt

The Contour Tan

James says: “Use a bronzing spray to give extra definition to areas on show, accentuating the collar bones and shoulders. It’s about using tan to add contours to the skin.”

The Kit: Bronzing Powder in Laguna, £27.50, Nars, Rose Aux Joues Blush Duo in Over Rose, £39.50, Guerlain, Instant Bronzing Mist, £25, James Read
